Chapter 20
Dotty had been dying to take a photo of Kylieâs mishap and post it on social media, but she knew how unkind that would be. Kylie would be sure to get lots of negative comments if she did that, so she decided against upsetting her friend. Unfortunately, the young schoolgirls didnât have the same loyalty towards Kylie and within hours, virtually the whole of Sussex had seen the video. Kylie would have their guts for garters if she got hold of the girls who did this. Now her picture was out there, she had to take the flack. Thankfully, she was thick-skinned enough and the jibes she received had an equal one batted back. Kylie didnât take things lying down. She retaliated and did so in style.
One good thing that came out of the whole escapade for Kylie was getting the phone number of one of the firemen. Barry was being his usual non-committal self and Kylie was sick of it. This was her way of paying him back for his lack of attention towards her and Ollie. Barry came and went into their life as and when it pleased him. She knew she should sack him off, but he came in useful sometimes. For all she would have loved an ideal life, playing happy families with him, he wasnât reliable. He didnât have the same long-term goals as Kylie and never showed any inclination towards a permanent relationship. She was convinced he was playing away and not with his wife. Well, two could play at that game. Her adventure to the park wasnât all bad, even if she was the laughingstock for a while. The public would soon move on to someone else. How did she ever imagine she could fit into that tiny swing? What had she been thinking? It must have been a moment of madness on her part, and she couldnât now understand the decision herself. As well as the online abuse, there were plenty of positive remarks and posts about what Kylieâs idea of swinging was. The worst offenders were her colleagues at the salon. They knew how dirty Kylieâs mind was and that she would enjoy the joke. She was good at giving it out, but the comments were relentless and started wearing her down. Depending on her mood, which could swing back and forth every hour, it could also affect her when she was being attacked. It didnât take long for her mind to switch from going in all guns blazing against her attackers to focusing on the negative comments and believing them. She read one more comment and her sensitive side came to the fore. She had seen enough of the smutty threads, so she phoned Dotty for a moan.
Dotty was busy putting the portions of her stew into individual containers. She had a little production line going, and she weighed them out to make sure they got the same amount. As Dotty listened, she thought to herself that Kylie only had herself to blame.
